For someone that likes to cook, make, bake, marinade, mix, proof, etc. I had accumulated a shit ton of bowls. Big ones, small ones, medium, tall, short, glass, steel, plastic. These in turn get fired into a specific cupboard in a very loose approximation of order. Somewhat like this.
The big ones for big stuff, the small ones for holding ingredients and such mid assembly or storing a leftover etc.
They are fine. They are bowls. They hold stuff.
Does anyone else have trouble with getting plastic wrap to stick to the top of a bowl? You see people with the plastic nice and tight like a drum. Sorcerers. When I do it, it just sits there all flaccid like. You stretch it and pull it tighter…more flaccid. Then you move the bowl and the flaccid plastic catches a bit of air and slides off to the floor.
Pisses me off.
One day I’m cruising the isles of Canadian Tire, making sure I haven’t missed something good…..and I see these on sale. (note, it is May 6th, 2021 and they are on sale again for freaking $15. Go now and get them)
I bring these home and they have very tight fitting covers and they all nest together inside each other…..they are plastic but immediately my motley collection seems ridiculous. And when you need to keep the stuff in the bowl you put it in, snap the cover on, be damned ye flaccid plastic wrap!! For scale, the biggest one is like a very large salad bowl @ 5.5L, the smallest one is very small.
So these have pleased me for quite a while….but they are plastic. Strong but plastic. Someone I know (ehhm) recently was battling an under ripe avocado in an attempt to render it into critical Mexican salad guacamole. This involved a sharp instrument and much gnashing in the bowl. The plastic did not win. Its fine, but scratchy inside now, pleasing me slightly less.
THEN I found these on the jungle site. I’m betting you’re thinking but those must be very spensive!!
These are $40!! and they are incredible. Nice heavy highly polished stainless steel with bonded silicone bottoms (non slip) and tight fitting lids. These upped the bowl game majorly! I snuck them into the cupboard and when the next Avocado massacre was about to begin…there was much ooohing and ahhhing. The lids also match the bottom color so there is no guessing on that either….all the bowls nest and all the lids do too.
Its amazing what you can get for so little that will provide such utility and satisfaction.
Hi Lee Rec Om Ended.
Thought an imposter had infiltrated your site when reading the plastic bowls section as did not seem to fit with prior editions of Chuck's stuff - and went to the kitchen to check the name of the awesome nesting, tight- fitting lid, stainless steel but silicone bottomed bowl set (3 bowls) I swear by...then came back and read the rest of your post to discover your 6 bowls set version of same - so twice as good! Meantime noticed that the newer version of mine ("Belwares") have some cool added features (spout, handle, graters)....
